The festivals, cultural and leisure events to be found in San Sebastián and Gipuzkoa result in a wide and varied programme of shows and activities throughout the year. The International Film Festival is held in the capital of Gipuzkoa in September, while throughout August, there is the Quincena Musical - the oldest musical festival in Spain - with opera and ballet, as well as symphony and choral concerts. The Jazz Festival is in July and in November the Fantasy and Horror Film Festival.

One of most outstanding museums is the Chillida-Leku open-air museum devoted to the work of the sculptor, Eduardo Chillida. The Science Museum, Miramón Kutxa-Espacio, with a planetarium, astronomy observatory and permanent exhibitions where scientific phenomena take the form of educational games and the Aquarium, which has sharks amongst its many attractions, are other excellent leisure options.

If you want to enjoy the benefits of the sea water, another option is to visit the La Perla Talasotherapy Centre, located on La Concha beach.

For ice skating lovers, Txuri-Urdin Ice Palace, one of the city’s most emblematic structures, has a professional rink for ice hockey and artistic skating international competitions, and also for amateur on ice activities.

As far as the atmosphere in the street is concerned, the historical old town of San Sebastián is the leisure centre both by day and at night, with numerous "pintxos" bars and places to have a drink, discos and the Kursaal Casino.
